With this article, we’d like to share what co-design means to us and show our approach to implementing our customers’ ideas.

We strongly believe that the key to a great product design development depends on the tight collaboration between the client and the vendor of the provided design services. Active involvement of the client throughout all design creation stages and the transparency of all processes can significantly impact the quality of the product.

Step 1: Let’s discuss the idea, shall we?

The design journey always starts with the process of getting familiar with the client’s idea, vision, and objectives. During the concept discussion, we aim to obtain a thorough understanding of our client’s expectations of our collaboration and the final version of the product.

At this stage, we want to make sure that our goals are well-defined and we are on the same page with the customer.

Step 2: It’s briefing time!

The brief is one of the most vital documents during the research. We provide our clients a thoroughly designed document so that we could gather all the necessary requirements from them.

The brief can be considered as a connecting bridge between the client and designers since it allows to dive deeper into the client’s preferences, goals, target audience and target market, references, and avoid all possible misunderstandings.

Whether it’s the creation of the design for the future website or a promo video, the brief is highly important for any type of product.

Step 3: Here comes in-depth research.

No matter what product we are designing, we will conduct thorough research once we have all the necessary requirements.

If we are dealing with web or mobile design, we will perform market and competitor research, develop personas profiles, and create information architecture.

In case it’s the design of 2D illustrations, we will analyze numerous references, market trends, and sources to meet the set goals. We consider the research stage to be extremely useful since its results will be used to form the backbone of the future product.

Step 4: Sketching, wireframing, visualizing.

At this point, we take all the information gathered at the previous stages and start visualizing it.

We draw sketches both manually and interactively, create low and high-fidelity wireframes, and use all available tools for breathing life into abstract ideas. The creation of sketches and wireframes is important for designers not only because it helps them outline the structure of the future product but also because it ensures that its visual representation meets the client’s vision and expectations.

Moreover, at this point, it’s much easier and more cost-saving to make amendments and avoid a number of mistakes during the next stages.

Step 5: Presenting, evaluating, and gathering feedback.

Once we create the first full-fledged version of the product’s design, we present it to our client. Normally, we create several versions not to limit our clients to only one option.

Presentation is highly important since it allows us to explain everything that stands behind each visual element. It also helps ignore geographical constraints since there are various efficient software solutions to present the product remotely without any challenges.

The design presentation is usually conducted by one of our project managers or lead designers. Overall, we think that presentation is one of the great ways to bond with the client, accurately explain our vision and work done, and obtain valuable feedback that will be used further.

Step 6: Full-fledged design creation

As we have already said, close collaboration with our customers is a top priority for us. Thus, throughout the design creation, we constantly provide our clients with reports on the completed tasks and send the completed screens for approval. We guide through the design process and make sure our clients are part of this journey.

Step 7: The long-awaited moment

After all iterations, usability testing, and corresponding amendments, we provide our clients with the final version of the product.

Once again, we present the outcome of our efforts making sure that all the feedback was considered and the final version accurately meets the initial requirements.
